Biedermeier Mahogany Chest of Drawers
Circa 1830
This piece beautifully exemplifies the Biedermeier's emphasis on using the timber's figure as ornament; here we see the rich and vibrant flame mahogany figure continuing over all three drawer fronts. The rectangular stepped top over an undulating frieze drawer over two deep drawers, each inlaid with an ebonized diamond-form escutcheon, raised on block form feet.
