Lacca Povera Terracotta Vase mounted as a Lamp
Mid 18th Century
The baluster form terra cotta vase decorated with Chinoiserie decoration including a Court figure waving a banner with an attendant, persimmons, orchids, peonies and other emblems of good fortune on cream ground. "Lacca povera" was the Italian imitation of Chinese lacquer. Mounted on a turned giltwood base and fitted with brass adjustable rod and two bulb sockets. Height to top of vase is 16 inches.
