A rectangular hand-constructed box with a hinged lid. The base of the box is painted black and then covered with pieces of hand-cut and painted marbleized papers of various, earth-toned shades. There are three hand colored photogravures on the top of the box depicting ancient masks. The interior of the box.

Thomas Engelhart (American, 1972–) is an artist living and working in New York City. His boxes and objects are explorations of color, pattern and form. The papers are hand painted in studio before being applied to the hand constructed boxes. Each piece is truly unique.
