Rough Strigillation
A pair of hand-constructed gray and rust-colored, porphyry papier peint lidded boxes. The porphyry ground is overlaid with a marbleized pattern. The boxes contain a tapered, obelisk pinnacle. The interior of the boxes is painted gray. The artist has stamped his initials 'TE.' on underside.
Acrylic and shellac based inks on Ingres Paper.

Thomas Engelhart (American, 1972–) is an artist living and working in New York City. His boxes and objects are explorations of color, pattern and form. The papers are hand painted in studio before being applied to the hand constructed boxes. Each piece is truly unique.
