"The Fair" Paper Cutwork

Intricate paper cutwork of a country fair all cut from a single sheet of paper made by Elizabeth Knipe Cobbold and inscribed in ink with her poem "The Fair", published posthumously in 1825. Dimensions noted are framed. Elizabeth Cobbold (London, 1767– 17 October 1824) was an English poet and novelist. She published several books of poetry and novels. As the wife of a prominent brewer in Ipswich, she became a leading local philanthropic and social figure, holding Valentine's Day gatherings for which she made each guest a cut out Valentine attached with a verse, of which this is most likely one.
